Therapeutic support through Separation

Helping parents and individuals navigate separation with compassion, clarity and psychological insight.

Separation and divorce can be among the most emotionally challenging experiences people face. Alongside grief, uncertainty and conflict, there are often practical decisions to make, relationships to redefine and children’s needs to consider. At the very time when clear communication matters most, it can feel almost impossible.

This service offers a dedicated therapeutic space for parents, couples and individuals to process the emotional impact of separation and to find healthier ways of managing the transition. Whether you are at the beginning of the process, in the midst of legal proceedings, or adjusting to life after separation, the focus is on supporting your wellbeing and helping you move forward with greater clarity and resilience.

Navigating Separation: Therapeutic Support for Parents, Couples and Individuals

Kate brings a unique perspective.

Before training as a psychotherapist, Kate worked for many years in family law and mediation. That experience gave her a deep understanding of the pressures separating families often face, including co-parenting challenges, communication difficulties, and the emotional strain that can accompany legal processes.

While Kate no longer provides mediation, she brings that knowledge into her therapeutic work to help clients navigate separation with greater insight and emotional support. This means she understands the landscape you may be moving through without acting as a mediator or providing legal advice.

How therapy can help

Sessions may support you to:

  • Manage the emotional impact of separation and divorce.

  • Improve communication where ongoing co-parenting is required.

  • Explore conflict in a safe, reflective environment.

  • Strengthen your ability to make thoughtful decisions during times of stress.

  • Focus on your child's emotional wellbeing while caring for your own.

  • Develop practical strategies for navigating change and building a sustainable future.

For couples attending together, the emphasis is not on reconciliation or negotiating legal agreements. Instead, therapy provides a structured space to understand patterns, reduce conflict where possible, and support healthier communication as you move through separation.

Assessment and Fees

The first step is an individual assessment appointment to think about you, your situation and what will help support your needs.

  • Individual assessment (75 minutes): £125 per person.

  • Following assessment: a focused block of three 90-minute therapeutic sessions at £150 per session.

  • Sessions can be offered on Zoom or in Kate’s consulting room in Bristol.

This is not long-term therapy. Further recommendations can be discussed after the initial block if additional support would be beneficial.

Please note: This is a psychotherapy service and is not mediation, legal advice or legal representation. The aim is to provide emotional and psychological support to individuals and couples as they navigate separation, parenting changes and family transitions.

When families are changing, emotional support matters just as much as legal support.
